REVIEW : SATYAMEVA JAYATE

A Sunday morning that usually passed with the usual chores, got enlightened by brutal reality today, as Aamir Khan came forward with his home production ‘Satyameva Jayate’. He made sure to reach each and every television set across the country by fixing the premier of the show on one of the major Satellite channel -Star Plus, along with 13  channels of Doordarshan and Star. Infact, Satyamev Jayate is the first show ever in the history of Indian Tv to be aired simultaneously on a private channel network and the National Broadcaster. What else can you expect when Mr. Perfectionist makes his television debut.

Aamir never revealed the content or format of the show. The teasers were developed in a fashion that stirred the curious buds in the Indian Audiences. The provoking commercials proved on to be a hard hitting formula. Everyone around was talking about the show with curiosity and eagerness. His ‘Dil pe lagegi, tabhi toh baat banegi’ line drew people in. And then came the teaser where he asked the people to have a good sleep on Saturday night. “You can sleep till 9 or 10 if you want. Because at 11, I am coming – to wake you up.” Aamir was seen saying this confidently.

And was the show a wake-up call? Yes it was. Millions crowded their television sets to listen to what Aamir had to say. The teasers worked and thus began the spectacular journey that will be a benchmark in the history of Indian television. The first episode came up with the hard-hitting theme of Female Foeticide. Though the issue is a very serious one, it was never a boiling topic in the recent times. But one thing is for sure that, IT IS NOW!
The major advantage of the show is its easy language and content. Aamir takes the precision to reach every individual in the audience. The complications of such a crucial issue are simplified to the core by the presenter without messing up the importance of the topic. Regardless of a person’s educational qualification, or age, the show focuses on mass appeal. No cheap tricks are used and no sub standard formula is applied to gain TRPs. Aamir himself said before the launch of the show, “I am always scared to walk a new path and be different. I have no idea how TRPs are calculated. This show is more about connecting with audiences than the TRPs,"

The show will no doubt prove to be one of the most successful shows on Indian television and shall also reap a huge pile of money. Aamir himself is speculated to be charging a whooping sum of 3 crores. But, money is not the solution the common man wants. The producers and channels might fill up their pockets, but the people sitting eagerly in front of their tv sets are expecting a change in the whole system. Many might even accuse Aamir Khan by putting up arguments like if he wanted to genuinely bring a change, he should have done the show for free. According to me, such arguments are of least importance because the end result is what matters. Producing and acting is Aamir Khan’s profession and that is what he is doing. We must be grateful to the man for coming up with a show that has the potential to stir up a revolution. Yes! He is getting handsomely paid but at least he is returning the favor by standing up for a cause.

Now comes a question that what is so special about Satyameva Jayate. In today’s episode, two television reporters from Sahara Samay were called in to talk. They had conducted a sting operation that exposed more than 100 doctors who were involved in  female foeticide. Their findings had been already telecasted on National television seven years ago. But the facts say that all those doctors are still continuing their practices without a worry. Similarly, daily different news channels bring up topics of national importance in front of the people. We watch them and we forget them the next hour. So, what would be the different thing about Satyameva Jayate that it is speculated to rouse a revolution??

The Answer is - Aamir Khan! Unlike all the other shows on all the other channels, Aamir does not stand there as a presenter of the show. He stands firmly with confidence as a leader who is all set to guide the way. He is asking people to follow him. He is asking them to come forward. He is telling them the difference between right and wrong and is also teaching them the way to righteousness. This is a mighty task that no ordinary anchor can carry out. Aamir is a figure who is seen with respect because of his socially relevant films throughout his career. He is perceived to be dependent and already has a huge following because of his immaculate star-power. And this man here is seen to be utilizing all that strength in the right direction.

Satyemeva Jayate is a stepping stone for every individual who wants to bring in a change.

I salute Aamir for bringing up a television show that’s going to definitely bring a revolution!!!!!

  2. In a day I have read a few posts and a tons of tweets. Everybody have their opinion and I have mine too and I expressed it as well through a post on my blog.

It's a mixed opinion about the show and about Aamir Khan. Well, just like you I feel the show must go on and I support its motto and mission.

@medha : This show is something that was a necesssary requirement for the country at this point of time when everything around is getting polluted by the evil practices... I pray that this step comes up with enlightening results!!

  4. This and other episodes to follow in the great show all point to the same thing - ineffective implementation of laws in India. Annaji we don't need new laws. Just implement existing laws like the Medical Council of India who till date never cancelled the license of any practising doctor. How about the illiterate High Court judge who should be banned because he said "there is nothing wrong in expecting that your newborn should be a son".

  5. @Nandakumar : Well said! We already have strict laws that can prevent such mishaps. All we need to do is to implement them without fail. Another thing that I would like to mention is that this is a show that's encouraging each individual to bring the change in himself. That's what's really necessary. It all comes to 'Be the change that you want to witness in the world'!!

  6. Well written! Aamir Khan is a phenomenon. The best way to change oneself or community as a whole is literacy and education. The first episode on "Girl-Child Foeticide" was brilliant portrayal. It had an impact! Change is the need of the hour. Great show!!
